Universal Strikes Gold With Two 3 Star Certifications

Double celebrations for Universal Music UK which scored two 3 Star Creative Green Certifications for 2015

Massive congratulations to Universal Music UK for getting two 3 Star Creative Green Certifications for 2015 – for their Abbey Road Studios and Kensington office.

This is Universal Music’s second round of certification and has increased its star rating from 1 Star to 3 Stars in just one year – a monumental achievement. The 3 Star rating has been awarded in recognition of Universal Music’s commitment and achievement in embedding environmental sustainability in their building operations and creative activities.

Universal Music’s total carbon footprint has reduced by an incredible 19% compared to 2013. They recycled 42% of their waste last year thanks to the installation of new office recycling bins and lots of great communications and awareness-raising. In addition to this, Universal have also managed to reduce their business travel – their main environmental impact - resulting in a 20% reduction in air travel emissions!

Abbey Road Studios is conducting fantastic work, installing LED lighting in the building as part of a capital investment programme and joining the group’s Green Team – which coordinates the sustainability programme.

Universal Music has set up numerous behaviour change campaigns and activities throughout the year in order to promote sustainably in-house. Initiatives include: Switch It Off (aimed at saving energy and encouraging efficiency), Keep Cups, and the Bike-to-Work scheme. Universal Music also celebrated World Environmental Day in June and featured a speaker from Do The Green Thing alongside the Electric Pedals challenge.

Huge congratulations from the Julie’s Bicycle team, we can’t wait to see what Universal gets up to next year.
