IG Hatrick for Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium has done it again: a third year of three star Creative Industry Green certification! Huge congratulations to Wembley for its continued and outstanding efforts in reducing its environmental impact.
Wembley Stadium is measuring six sources of environmental impact and is demonstrating best practice by in-depth monitoring of energy and water consumption (using a Building Management System) and using data to inform and prioritise action. When comparing 2014 to 2013, Wembley Stadium has achieved a 6% reduction in its CO2e emissions from energy, water, wastewater, waste, fleet travel and business travel.
Special commendation to members of Wembley’s Green Team, who in 2014, organised several cross-organisation activities to engage with stadium staff on environmental issues. Activities in 2014 focussed on sustainable transport and included the Commuter Fitness Challenge, a relay competition between the four office areas to see who could cycle the furthest. Back by popular demand was the Bikers Breakfast, in which a bike mechanic was on hand to provide free bike servicing and advice (along with a bacon sandwich and a cup of tea). Other activities organised by the Green Team included: a volunteering day at St Luke’s Hospice, as well as lunchtime learning sessions on videoconferencing (helping Wembley to cut its business travel emissions!).
Wembley Stadium uses its high public profile to reach thousands of audience members, communicating its environmental values and commitments on-site and through its website (which contains pages dedicated to sustainability). In 2014, it put on 30 events, which attracted a total attendance of 2,102,637 people.
We look forward to our continuing work with Wembley Stadium, a leading sustainable venue!
