Almeida Theatre Achieves Three Stars Creative Industry Green
The Almeida's latest Creative Industry Green Certification details the theatre's inspiring journey towards environmental sustainability over the past few years.
In 2014/15 the Almeida realised an incredible 18% reduction in energy emissions, and a further 65% reduction from business travel. This success is in great part due to the responsibility that board members, senior managers and employees have taken to embrace environmental sustainability at all levels of the organisation. Such was the success of this collective commitment, that they decided to discontinue the Green Team and emphasise environmental best practice as a part of every senior manager's role.
The organisation is deepening its understanding of how audiences and staff travel to and from the venue, and is currently engaging many external stakeholders with their sustainability work, including freelance directors, visiting companies, audiences, suppliers and the wider theatre community. Last year a new section on the Almeida's website was launched, Greening the Almeida, which shares their Environmental Sustainability Policy, Creative IG certification and report, and invites their stakeholders to join a conversation about what it means to be a producing theatre is today's climate of change.
“We make theatre that leads the cultural conversation in London, the UK and internationally. In coming to see a production at the Almeida you are taking part in that conversation, provoking us to consider how we lead our lives as individuals and as organisations.”– Greening the Almeida
Their three star Creative Industry Green certification is a fitting reward for the Almeida's creative and practical efforts, and we look forward to seeing how their work continues to flourish.Login/sign up to add to your Bookmarks
