Creative Climate Leadership

Creative Climate Leadership aims to put culture at the forefront of the global response to climate change by enabling artists, cultural professionals and policymakers to take action with impact, imagination and resilience.

The success of the COP21 UN Climate Talks and the first universal agreement on climate change – the Paris Agreement – has called for urgent, collaborative and creative leadership.

Artists and the wider cultural community have a unique and critical role: they deal with the art of the possible and influence new ways of being, doing and thinking. Creative Climate Leadership supports cultural professionals to apply these qualities to the climate challenge through a programme of events, policy labs, training courses, grants and mentoring.

Creative Climate Leadership is a pan-European project co-funded by Creative Europe. It is led by Julie's Bicycle and delivered in partnership with seven creative and cultural partners.

Leadership Development Training

Creative Climate Leadership supports people to take a lead on climate change in the creative and cultural sector.

The programme's international Creative Climate Leadership training courses will take place in Wales and Slovenia in 2017. The course is aimed at artists and cultural leaders and we welcome applications from all creative disciplines and art forms, including people and organisations that work directly with the cultural sector in funding, policy and advocacy roles. The five-day intensive course will enable participants to apply environmental targets and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals meaningfully to their work, and explore what cultural leadership means in the context of a rapidly changing world.

Training participants will become part of an Alumni Network and have the opportunity to apply for project grants and mentoring.

In dialogue with policymakers

Through policy labs and conference events the project enables direct dialogue between the cultural sector, artists, environmental experts, funders and policymakers. They will share learning on skills and approaches from the training programme, position culture and a critical part of the solution to climate change, share research and recommendations for appropriate policy making, and invite decision makers to become part of the creative process to design a more sustainable future.
